Magnetic resonance imaging

Magnetic-resonance-imaging-MRI-at-Bochorishvili-Clinic-Tbilisi

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is performed at the Academician Vakhtang Bochorishvili Clinic using the Siemens MAGNETOM Vida 3T device. Modern technologies and an environment tailored to patient comfort create conditions for detailed assessment of organs and tissues.

What is magnetic resonance imaging?

Magnetic resonance imaging, also known as MRI , is a diagnostic test that uses a strong magnetic field and radio waves to create detailed images of the body's internal structures. The test does not use ionizing radiation .

MRI helps the doctor detect diseases, clarify the diagnosis, plan treatment, and evaluate its results. The doctor determines the need for the study and the area to be examined.

Equipment - Siemens MAGNETOM Vida 3T

Our department is equipped with a Siemens Healthineers magnetic resonance imaging system - MAGNETOM Vida 3T , which combines high-resolution imaging and research acceleration technologies.

The main features of the device are:

  • 3 Tesla magnetic field - to obtain detailed images of organs and tissues.
  • Deep Resolve - an artificial intelligence-based image reconstruction technology that helps improve image quality and reduce scanning time.
  • BioMatrix technology - for tailoring the study to the individual characteristics of the patient.
  • Wide tunnel with a diameter of 70 cm - for more comfortable patient placement.
  • Integrated video screen and orthopedic mattress - for additional comfort during the examination.

The duration of the study depends on the area being examined, the selected protocol, and the need for the use of contrast material.

What is an MRI scan used for?

Magnetic resonance imaging is used to:

  1. To assess the condition of the brain and nervous system;
  2. To examine the spine and spinal cord;
  3. To assess injuries to joints, ligaments, tendons, and muscles;
  4. To examine the abdominal cavity and pelvic organs;
  5. To assess tumor growths, their spread, and response to treatment;
  6. With the appropriate protocol - for examining blood vessels.

How is the research going?

Before the test begins, the staff will review your medical history and check for safety issues related to MRI . You will then be positioned on the machine's moving table.

It is important to remain still during the scan and follow the instructions of the staff. The machine is noisy, which can be reduced by wearing earplugs or protective earmuffs. Communication with the staff is possible during the scan.

In some cases, a contrast agent may need to be injected into a vein to make certain tissues and changes more visible. The doctor will determine whether or not contrast is needed.

How to prepare for an MRI scan?

When planning a study, be sure to inform the staff if:

  • You have a pacemaker, other electronic device, implant, or metal fragment in your body;
  • You are pregnant or there is a possibility of pregnancy;
  • You have kidney disease or have previously had a reaction to MRI contrast material.
  • Do you suffer from a fear of enclosed spaces or have difficulty lying still?

If you have an implant, bring its documentation with you - the possibility of conducting the study depends on the type of device and its compatibility with MRI.

Bring a doctor's referral, if you have one, and any previous test results or images. Food and fluid intake guidelines vary depending on the specific test; check preparation instructions in advance. Kidney function may also need to be assessed when planning a contrast study.

Before the examination, you must remove metal accessories and leave electronic items outside the examination room as instructed by the staff.

Survey response

The images are evaluated by a radiologist and a report is prepared. The results should be considered by your treating physician along with your complaints and other medical data.

Conclusion preparation period: 2 working days.
Form of receiving the conclusion and images: with a disk and QR code.

Opening hours and cost

Department working days: Monday through Saturday.
Patient reception hours:

  • Monday - Friday 09:00 - 20:00;
  • Saturday - 10:00 - 17:00.
